Introduction
Hwajeokyeon, which is located at the border of Jail-ri Yeongbuk-myeon and Sajeong-ri Gwanin-myeon features magnificent scene with large rock and deep pond near Hantangang River. The name came from its shape which looks like a stack of straws. According to the legend, an old farmer who sighed by the pond resenting the 3-year long drought said "We have so much water but helpless enough to dry out the crops! Not only sky, but the dragon is napping for all these 3 years.” Then, the pond turned over and the dragon came out of the water, head first, and went up to sky. Since the night of that day, it started to rain and the farmers had a bumper year. With the legend, farmers of this region hold rain calling ceremony whenever there is drought. The water is 400 pyeong wide, and the height is about 13m.
